Uploaded for a friend, who was searching for people's favorite versions of We Three Kings:

Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra - classical, and powerful. You get to the myrrh verse, and it feels like an intense, symphonic funeral march.

Aly & AJ - beautiful. A lot of their Christmas songs fit in more with the cheery teen-pop vibe (which I quite like, when properly applied), but this one really doesn't, and they don't force it to.
recordbodycount: Martin Tielli's "Pearson Pennant" doubleneck guitar (music // rheostatics doubleneck)

So no one's posted in nine weeks but I just joined and wanted to play along. I figured I might as well continue the Love theme.

Robyn Hitchcock - I Feel Beautiful
Hitchcock is sometimes accused of concealing genuine emotion under layers of surrealist lyrics, but on this track he's quite bare and sincere. The percussion is bouncy and childlike and the waves of acoustic guitar are typically beautiful, but Hitchcock's imperfect voice (Lennonish and nasal) has the cracks and scrapes of a mature man, someone who really has been "hanging round Covent Garden for you for centuries / ...waiting round Festival Pier for you, honey, for decades." Hitchcock is not only aging, he's a notably homely guy, adding a funny and/or poignant touch to singing that he feels beautiful because his woman loves him.

Mike O'Neill - She Believes in Me
Mike used to be half of the Inbreds, who had a minimalist but very tight aesthetic, and this has the same spare but poppy sound. It's not actually acoustic but it's not processed much, and the less-than-three-minute construction is light. The lyrics, meanwhile, hint of a shady past redeemed by love, full of optimism for the future.

Rheostatics - Take Me in Your Hand
Martin Tielli is a songwriter who, for whatever reason, rarely writes love songs. Even this one, though sweetly intimate and full of wonder, is also about feeling fearful and overwhelmed by love. He urges his lover, "put me back into the nest", portraying himself (with no concern for masculinity) as a baby bird and as a little girl, while the beloved is "as wicked as a bee, much happier than me." The guitar is all angular strumming and the production is hushed and still, capped off with a little tin-whistle march, solemn as a child.

純粋恋心
From the Junjou Romantica soundtrack [vol. 2]. This is the song that always comes up in my mind when thinking about love. It's so soft but still very much there. I really adore it.

雨色ロンド
From the Toradora! soundtrack. The sounds that overlays the piano just makes it seem more solitary, somehow.

哀しみの理由
Another from the Junjou Romantica soundtrack [vol 2]. Makes me think of staring outside on a rainy day.

... I like instrumentals.

Lata Mangeshkar - Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya
Possibly the most famous song in the Mughal-e-Azam soundtrack, sung in a scene that still has the power, for me, to cut through years of accumulated cynicism: Anarkali defiantly announces her love for Prince Salim before his father, Emperor Akbar, knowing she is doomed. There're translations for the lyrics floating about online and this video has subtitles, but it omits the long instrumental opening. Sorry for the low volume of the rip -- try using MP3Gain.

The Brilliant Green - Rock'n Roll [buy]
Okay, so the lyrics are never going to win awards for profundity. Nevertheless, the Brilliant Green is strongly associated with a happy time in my life and my first partner, and this song is a warmingly romantic pop-rock number. Rather like tea.

Tribalistas - Já Sei Namorar [buy]
I call this a love song to life, and I don't think I'm too far off.

Slipping Through My Fingers - Meryl Streep & Amanda Seyfried
From the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of 'Mamma Mia!'
Song originally performed by ABBA

I think the lyrics of this song make a love song in its own right, especially if you are a parent. I know that it often makes me very sentimental when I hear it :)

California Dreamin'-The Mama's and the Papa's
Such a great, folksy, seemingly happy song, with various meanings on the concept of love.

Hey, guys. Bringing some songs - probably mostly well known, but whatever. Mediafire where not noted, again. Also, consider this a fly-by posting - this is the first time my hard-drive has been hooked up in about a week.

Gold, Tan, Peach, and Grey by Bodies of Water (official website). I brought you guys a song from Bodies of Water in my last post as well; this one is one of their original songs, and I love it, just fyi.
A Lack of Color by Death Cab for Cutie
Grey Street by Dave Matthews Band. This one is from the Lillywhite sessions, so consider it legal - DMB endorses distribution of the Lillywhite Sessions.
The Deepest Blues Are Black by Foo Fighters.

Naive Orleans (Acoustic) - Anberlin I really, really love this song. The lyrics are ever so slightly repetitive, but it's such a pretty piece about breaking up and moving on and things like that. I'm not really sure how to describe the style, alternative rock, I think?

Chicago (Acoustic) - Sufjan Stevens I just recently got acquainted with Sufjan Steven's music, and I'm pretty much addicted. I read on Wikipedia that "Chicago" was his highest-ranking single on the charts, which definitely makes a lot of sense. It is a really lovely, folksy, easy song. I think it's my favorite out of the ones I'm posting.

If It Smashes Down - My Morning Jacket This one is the slowest, and I think the least happy, of the songs here. I think country rock or experimental would be the best way to describe the style.

Make-Up Smeared Eyes (Acoustic) - Automatic Loveletter The only female singer of the group! A faster tempo than the others, though still not particularly happy, but very nice to listen to all the same. The emo influence is pretty prominent on this rock-esque style, I would say.

Standing next to me (Acoustic) - The Last Shadow Puppets The style kind of reminds me the last song right before this one, but less emo. It's just really easy to listen to (like everything else, I think). I really like this a lot :)

I normally post download links and although I have this album on my iPod, I don't have the files on my computer. So I'm giving you two links to playlists with the majority of the album's songs on it.

Actually, I wanted to get to this first because I know tons of you are going to post similar or the same songs. But, I bring you, Punk Goes Acoustic. It's actually pretty good. I don't like most of the songs on it but hearing them performed acoustically made me appreciate them more.

Like I said, those are links to the playlists with the cd's songs.

Enjoy! ^_^

Most of these songs are acoustic with either piano or guitar accompaniment. Some of them are instrumentals by contemporary musicians, but all of them music I listen to when it's pouring outside and I'm sitting at my desk, freshly-showered and with a giant mug of something warm and milky in front of me. I'm heading in a bit though, so I'll just leave the links here sans rewiews for you guys. Enjoy. ♥

I received a suggestion this week and I wanted to know what you people think about this.

[personal profile] jom  suggested we could tag each entry according to the weekly theme, I didn't do it in the beginning because I thought that it was enough with the links listed on each new weekly theme post but I don't know what you would like to use... so, what would you like to use?

Well, I have a free account so I can't create a poll but leave your comments, please.
+ Would you like to use a tagging system according to the weekly themes?
+ Is it enough with the links listed on the weekly theme posts?
+ Do you have another suggestion, comment or complain?

Thanks for your attention! :D
